He says his first two albums were slaves to a “grand vision.” Hi This if Flume became an exercise in letting go. Despite 16 of its 17 songs being entirely original material, he called Hi This is Flume a “mixtape” to destress the creative process. Skin topped the Dance/Electronic Album Sales chart, while singles “Never Be Like You” featuring Kai and “Say It” featuring Tove Lo landed the producer his first Hot 100 hits. It's not made with dancing in mind but some of these tracks definitely get me moving.The 2016 Grammy-winning album pushed Streten to a new realm of international stardom. It's contemplative and thoughtful, but also visceral and engaging when it wants to be. This is music that you can actually sit and listen to. You really don't know what's coming in the next bar and I love that. The textures and melodies are gorgeous and enveloping.The percussion gives you just enough to nod along with but provide enough twists and turns to keep you actively engaged while listening. ![]() It's sound art that happens to absolutely fucking bump at times. It's simply electronic music with an emphasis on beats. The atypical rhythms make this SO much more interesting to me, and I would say this mixtape is certainly not EDM. I'm probably on my 8 or 9th listen through at this point and I'm still finding new things to love about it. This is basically Wall Fuck x1000 and it's something I've been hoping he would do at some point in his career (but not really expecting.) I feel like Flume always had something like this in him and it was just beneath the surface. That said, this is my favorite Flume project by miles. I respect your opinion and respect you for at least giving it a fair shot.
